Acquired Skills

1. Extraction of hippocampal cells from mouse embryos and their subsequent in vitro culture.
2. Mastering the use of surgical instruments required for brain surgery to extract the hippocampus.
3. Preparation of all necessary solutions and conditions to obtain mouse brain slices and stain them for the identification of the hippocampus.
4. English: "Training on the vibratome, a device used to prepare live slices of mouse brains (the only such device in Palestine).
5. Staining of extracted mouse slices to differentiate between hippocampal cells and other brain cells.

Target Group

Medical and health sciences students who are passionate about enhancing their anatomical skills and gaining knowledge of the different parts of the brain and their functions.

Requirements

The student must have completed the first and second levels of the medical research course.

Notes

The techniques covered in this course are the first of their kind in Palestinian universities, focusing on teaching and training students in mouse brain dissection and identification of its parts and cell types.
